170,000 posts vacant in Indian Railways

Around 170,000 posts are vacant in the Indian Railways, the government said Thursday.

The vacancies include some 32,600 posts reserved for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes, Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.

"Filling up the vacancies of reserved as well as unreserved posts is a continuous process. Some vacancies always remain due to non-availability of eligible empanelled candidates in the recruitment and promotional grades," he said.

Velu said when there are no eligible candidates to fill vacancies created by promotions, recruitments are made directly "from open market".

You have 32,600 posts in quota. Why don't you recruit for remaining posts as quickly as possible? what is preventing you? want money??

our govt is inefficient even in filling the jobs? no surprise there. hundreds of positions for judges still vacant. Thousands of positions for teachers still vacant.

on the other side of spectrum, we have lakhs of people that are unemployed and dying for food.

Yes you are right the Indian government is not capable to manage this type of challenges. They fell to their knees... this is very shameful to us.
But, I think, our present railway minster Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav is very capable to do this type of challenge very easily....
Ok lets see what government do on this matter.

Well seems like the railway unit not willing to fill all the posts as i have not seen any advertisement in the local newspapers about it since a long time.
I must say that they have a good working group as they can run all without so many people seats vacant.
